Slide 1: Hi there, my name is _____. I would like to present the application of a systematic approach to evaluate the feasibility of a newly developed nursing course.
Slide 2: The provided scheme is a good avenue for evaluating how effective the Advanced Pediatric Nursing course is as it includes several forms of assessment and philosophical orientations (Laugaland et al., 2023). This assessment framework intends to enhance educational quality and enhance the assurance of graduating students for safe practice professional pediatric nursing practice and use data evaluation, evidence-based practice, and continuous improvement methods.

Purpose
The purpose of this presentation is to outline a methodical approach that is going to be used for evaluating the effectiveness of a new course in Advanced Pediatric Nursing in increasing completion rates among the qualified nurses in the curve for the nursing curriculum. Monitoring and evaluating the alignment of a course to learning objectives and program outcomes facilitates disclosure of the impact of a course on the achievement of intended student learning and overall program quality to stakeholders (Calhoun et al., 2023). The purpose is to demonstrate how precise assessment approaches can help sustained improvements to the students’ results and programs of course, thus enriching the learning experience and providing nurse residents with well-paid positions in pediatric nursing.

Philosophical Approaches to Evaluation
Several philosophical premises that are key to assessments in learning institutions affect the design, administration, and analysis of assessments. These philosophical positions act as a frame of reference to understand the purpose and processes involved in assessment so that they align with educational goals and values.
Positivist Approach
Thus, the positivist method focuses on the quantitative results of educational achievements, testing, and statistical measures. The main assumption is that it is possible to apply scientific or positivist methods to identify ontological facts about the world and therefore get knowledge that is invariant over context (Park et al., 2020). In evaluating the effectiveness of educational programs, positivist approaches focus largely on productivity measures such as performance outcomes as evidenced by test scores and graduation rates.
Constructivist Approach
According to constructivists students’ knowledge is constructed through their interactions with the physical environment. Therefore, evaluations must focus on recognizing the ways by which significance is made and skills are developed among students (Andrews et al., 2020). For this reason, this approach often employs such research methods as observation, interviews, and reflective journals that are used to obtain context-specific quantitative information about the experiences of the learners.

Pragmatic Approach
Largely falling somewhere between constructivist and positivist paradigms, the pragmatic paradigm of assessment assigns significant importance to useful outcomes and the usability of the evaluation data (Travassos et al., 2021). According to the pragmatists, it is the primary mission of the evaluation to enhance educational practice and facilitate decisions. Flexible, this technique can be both qualitative and quantitative techniques depending on the setting and the overarching objective of the assessment.
Transformative Approach
As a method derived from social justice, the transformative method of evaluation’s goal in education is to enhance fairness by addressing issues of power. In this approach, the use of participatory methods is adopted to ensure that stakeholders especially marginal issues are involved in the review (Collins et al., 2020). Assessment for transformative evaluators is a means to social change and it is necessary to listen and embrace the views and experiences of the participants to foster their capacities for change.
Evaluating the Evidence
However, it could be seen that varying degrees of evidence are provided in each approach to appraisal supported by philosophical methods. While positivist approaches produce reliable and numerical findings, these methods might omit the qualitative aspects of learning (Park et al., 2023). Despite, constructivist approaches having some problems that concern the question of dependability, it is impossible to deny that they reveal profound aspects of the learning process. Both exploratory and transformative techniques assist inequality and value diversity, but these inevitably require a huge contribution from the various stakeholders for involvement.

Program Evaluation Process
Define Evaluation Goals and Objectives
Program evaluation for nurses requires a systematic approach to ensure that every aspect of the program is covered fully. The first element in this process is the identification of the purpose of the evaluation and the specific aims of the particular exercise (Kneipp et al., 2022). The establishment of specific goals and objectives helps offer a clear direction on where to focus the assessment and ensures that all stakeholders have a common understanding of what is expected at the end of the process.
Engage Stakeholders
The next step is to involve supporters, including instructors, administrators, students, and organizational allies. Stakeholding becomes crucial as they contribute to the formulation of the framework for the evaluation and have a surety that all their needs and concerns will be met (Kneipp et al., 2022). It is more effective to involve stakeholders in the process from the beginning as this increases the likelihood of accepting and legitimizing the findings of the assessment.
Develop an Evaluation Plan
After the payment of stakeholder participation, an elaborate evaluation strategy is developed (Zhang et al., 2023). This section contains details of the evaluation techniques, data-gathering protocols, deadlines, and roles. It has to be consistent with the specified goals and objectives.
Collect Data
The subsequent action is data gathering which involves the acquisition of various forms of information such as questionnaires, interviews, observations, assessments-both qualitatively and quantitatively (Zhang et al., 2023). They provide evidence that is needed to determine the effectiveness of the program. Using a variety of methods for data gathering helps to obtain a more complete picture of the program and its successes and failures.
Analyze Data
The next step after data collection is data analysis. Statistical and qualitative methods are also utilized to ensure accurate and meaningful findings are produced (Zhang et al., 2023). The analysis stage is beneficial in the decision-making process because it turns raw data into information.
Report Findings
The next valuable step is to present the data results obtained through the process of analysis. The outcomes are then compiled into a huge report that might explain the effectiveness of the scheme. This report should be readily understandable by all; its sections should include significant outcomes and relevant recommendations. There is also the need to communicate the assessment outcomes to stakeholders in a way that will enable them to understand and act accordingly.
Implement Recommendations
Recommendations specific to the improvement of the program are given and implemented based on the assessment done. This step involves putting into action the strategies developed, assigning duties, and ensuring adaptation is achieved within the program (Zhang et al., 2023). Implementation of recommendations based on the assessment data is helpful in the continual enhancement of the program’s quality and effectiveness.
Monitor and Review Changes
The durability of the enhancements is also ensured because the organizational processes are reviewed and observed on an ongoing schedule. This also means continuing inspection to see if any further refinements are necessary to sustain the cycle of improvement.

Limitations of the Program Evaluation Process
There are objective limitations to the future program assessment even if there is an organizational procedure in place. Another disadvantage is the influence of vague goals and objectives, which may complicate the scope and effectiveness of the evaluation (Schwarzman et al., 2020). In some cases, the process of engaging all stakeholders could prove to be extremely time-consuming and the management of conflicting opinions and priorities could be challenging. Developing a good plan for the review is time-consuming and resource-intensive, and it may be difficult to ensure there is sufficient variability built into the plan to accommodate the unexpected.
The amount of time and funds available may limit the data collection procedures and it may be challenging to ascertain the admissibility of data acquired from diverse sources. The validity of conclusions in data analysis may be compromised by interpretation bias, necessitating proficiency in both statistical and qualitative analytic techniques.

Evaluation Design
One method of program evaluation known as Context, Input, Process, and Product (CIPP) can be applied to the improvement of nursing education. It also helps ensure that all components of a program are assessed for continual improvement by providing an organized approach to program assessment.
Context evaluation
In the context evaluation component, the needs, aims, and goals of the nursing program are assessed. Context assessment is a process of defining the variables influencing the program, which includes analysis of the internal and external surroundings (Rouleau et al., 2019). This stage enables one to identify whether the goals of this program are relevant to the needs of the teachers, the students, and the healthcare facilities. An example of context assessment in an APN course is the determination of which aspects of practice knowledge and skills are most relevant to pediatric healthcare practitioners and ensuring the overall objectives of the course align with these requirements.
Input Evaluation
Evaluation of inputs involves examining instruments, techniques, and systems that are used to achieve the goals of the program. This includes assessing the course content, teaching strategy, human talent, and equipment and facilities available (Toosi et al., 2021). This way, teachers can determine whether the program is adequately prepared to realize the set goals based on the evaluation of these inputs. For instance, an input review may look into the extent to which faculties teaching pediatric nursing are well qualified, and to what extent the clinical simulation has been effective.
Process Evaluation
A significant aspect of process evaluation is activity monitoring to ensure that the program’s implementation is on track and schedule (Toosi et al., 2021). This entails close monitoring of classroom learning activities, clinical undertakings, as well as other pedagogical approaches. It helps identify any discrepancies from the planned activities since process review provides opportunities for rectification.
Product Evaluation
This section covers the results and determines the success of the program in achieving its goals and objectives. Examples of ways of evaluating a product include analyzing the results of an exam, students’ feedback, and graduates’ activity in clinical environments (Toosi et al., 2021). An example is evaluating the nursing graduates’ competence in the delivery of pediatric care and the practical application of evidenced-based processes.

Limitations of the CIPP Model
First off, programs with small budgets and staff capacity experience challenges, primarily because of the model’s complexity and resource demands for large commitments on time, personnel, and funds. Additionally, the process of collecting and assessing the data for each of the components of the model can be quite daunting as knowledge is needed to ensure that the data collected is credible and accurate (Toosi et al., 2021). Stakeholder involvement is crucial but not easy since they will provide different opinions that may lead to resistance or confrontation. The actualization of the findings through implemented changes based on existing evaluations may face barriers which could include institutional or faculty resistance Furthermore, evaluation endeavors on steady, consistent follow-up and sustained monitoring and improvement create added difficulties within the realm of education that is an ever-changing entity.

The Role of Data Analysis in Program Improvement
In nursing education, data analysis helps in tracking the progress of students, evaluating the strategies used in teaching, and identifying the impact of curriculum changes. As a result, educators can identify levels of achievement, areas requiring improvement, and patterns (Saul et al., 2022). This enables targeting of specific areas of need leading to enhanced programme delivery and results.
For instance, the trends refer to the test scores, performance in clinical simulation, and reflective assignments. Extra teaching aid or change in curriculum is needed if a significant number of students are struggling with, say, pediatric assessment or evidence-based client care.
Data-Driven Decision Making
It also helps in making informed decisions in the process of the program’s constant enhancement. By employing statistical software and tools, educators can conduct educational research studies that inform the choices made on strategic levels. For example, in the case of regression analysis, the key components, for example, which mode of teaching is effective or the availability of particular resources can be identified as contributing most to student achievement (Saul et al., 2022).

For example, data can demonstrate which case studies or simulation exercises foster enhanced clinical reasoning and critical thinking skills (Sreedharan et al., 2024). They can be used to enhance the teaching practices and design of the professional learning experiences for the faculties.
It can also be used to anticipate children who are at risk of low performance or even dropping out of school. Teachers can use records of truancy, engagement, and academic performance to develop response plans that will trigger referrals to tutoring, counseling, etc to target needy kids. The proactive approach enhances program retention and success rates of a program, as well as the outcome of every student involved.

Knowledge Gaps and Areas of Uncertainty
While quantitative data offers measures where with which to compare and measure progress, qualitative data offers words and descriptions needed to put findings into context. Developing effective methods for aggregating and assessing these many forms of data remains a challenge (Münch et al., 2020). Additional unpredictability comes from uncertainty on how outside variables define program results and student performance. Socio-demographic characteristics and educational background have been known to influence learning significantly; however, they are not easy to quantify and control in analyses. This is an indication that more detailed and comprehensive local data collection and better analytical tools are required to understand the extent and nature of such influences.

This talk has provided the attendees with an orderly approach through which they can evaluate the feasibility of the Advanced Pediatric Nursing course while emphasizing the importance of ensuring that the kind of test used corresponds to the results that are expected or the learning activities set for the course (Laugaland et al., 2023). Subjective philosophical frameworks and testing solutions can be employed to explain to stakeholders how the given course is useful for students and beneficial for the program.
