Hypothesis or Research Question

The hypothesis contends that self-serving attributional bias is positively related to subjective well-being and that positive coping strategies are the cause of this relationship (Sanjuan & Magallares, 2014).

Researchers’ Conclusion

The findings seem to support the hypothesis. The study shows that self-serving attributional bias indirectly contributes to cognitive aspects of subjective well-being through emotional routes. Besides this, positive problem-solving and positive cognitive restructuring coping styles have beneficial effects on well-being, but avoidance coping styles exert detrimental effects (Sanjuan & Magallares, 2014). Hence, well-being interventions should facilitate problem-solving skill, positive cognitive restructuring, and adaptive attributive styles, while eschewing avoidant behavior.

Research Method

The research employs the Attributional Style Questionnaire in which participants are presented with hypothetical scenarios and requested to state what they believe about themselves (Sanjuan & Magallares, 2014).

Application to Professional or Daily Life

The research applies to my workplace by offering information on how to deal with people who possess self-serving attributional bias. Particularly where victim mentality or narcissistic traits dominate, knowing about the damaging effect of such stereotypes and encouraging utilization of healthy coping mechanisms becomes indispensable. Encouraging participation in well-being improving programs might advance cognitive transformation as well as better thinking and doing patterns. Besides, this research gives me communication strategies that allow me to successfully deal with people whose self-serving attributional bias renders them hard to handle, encouraging accountability and cognitive as well as emotional well-being (Sanjuan & Magallares, 2014).
