Training Session for Policy Implementation

Slide 1

Hello! I am Adriel, and I will be talking about the training methods of healthcare staff during my presentation. The importance of policy and practice guidelines in enhancing the quality of care for diabetic patients will be emphasized. Furthermore, how to effectively engage stakeholders and collaborate with them to obtain the best patient outcomes will be explained.

Policy on Managing Diabetes

Slide 2

Mercy Medical Centre will follow the recommendations developed by the American Diabetes Association. Under ADA, the hospital is supposed to conduct HgbA1c testing at three times a year and foot checks at once a year (American Diabetes Association (2021). Patients should also be educated on self-management of diabetes. To measure glucose levels among patients, technology use and provision of suitable training for nursing staff is advisable. Considering the recent technological advancements, individual preferences should be taken into account while deciding on the kind of technical support to utilize. The following are the best diabetes treatment plans that nurses should utilize:

  • Screening for Type II diabetes and hyperglycemia in individuals aged between 35 and 70 years
  • Giving access to or counseling individuals with elevated blood glucose levels on self-care methods that promote a balanced diet and regular exercise
  • Risk element analysis, e.g., those linked to obesity

Need for Policy

Slide 3

HgbA1c testing and feet diagnostic tests are crucial in the early diagnosis of diabetes. MMC needs to be effective in these areas of concern. Pre-diabetes exists in 89% of US individuals. The cost incurred for diabetes diagnoses in the US was examined up to $303 billion in 2018 (Kerr et al., 2019). Hence, there is a necessity to enhance self-care behaviors and early diagnostic screening of patients.

Evidence-based Strategies for Working with Selected Role Group

Slide 4

Evidence-based practice (EBP) in healthcare has empowered health care workers to make decisions from evidence and enhance patient safety. In practicing EBP effectively, sources of information such as scientific literature, web sites, and patients’ desires and values must be utilized. The hospital ought to organize training procedures regarding diabetes diagnosis and treatment to educate and equip the medical team, including doctors, pharmacists, and health support staff (Dyson et al., 2018) Incorporating transparency and accountability among colleagues in health systems has numerous advantages. Successful leadership strategies can educate, motivate, and monitor the activities of the team. An organization must design a reliable and timely feedback mechanism to evaluate the performance of its organization, find out successes and failures, institute immediate adjustments, and formulate long-term objectives. These metrics play a vital role in tracking and enhancing organizational performance, as suggested by Rossing et al. (2022).

There are a number of techniques that can be implemented to enhance the commitment and participation of the nursing staff in the healthcare system. It is achievable through implementing collaboration between the healthcare staff whereby nurse leader fosters inter-disciplinary communication (Wymer et al., 2021). The nursing staff will be capable of discussing the issues in the working routine and will be capable of supporting one another towards improving the patient care. Additionally, reward and appreciation as the best strategy to improve nurses’ buy-in is the best option. Nurses will persuade patients to go through the HgbA1c test so that they can be rewarded for delivering quality health services (Specchia et al., 2021).

Efficacy of Strategies

The success of strategies will be enhanced stakeholders’ awareness about utilizing new policies and training sessions for improved patient care. In addition, the survey will effectively gather the success of strategies and feedback of the nursing staff in training sessions.

Measure for Early

To measure the success of training sessions, nurse engagement is a significant factor to assess. The reaction of the nurse towards the new practices and diabetic patient care standards can reflect their contribution. The buy-in of the stallholder will be enhanced by better performance by nursing staff and higher standards of patient care (Reidy et al., 2020). Feedback from nurses’ survey will reflect the success of the training session and demonstrate the nursing staff’s satisfaction and dissatisfaction.

Impact of New Policy and Practice Guidelines

Slide 5

By adhering to the specified Benchmark, all healthcare settings can attain specific and estimated high-quality patient care. The increasing number of diabetic patients can be managed by timely evaluation of the disease by an HgbA1c test and foot inspection.

The session will provide an education on new guidelines for the management and control of diabetes.Patient care guidelines can lower the risk, earlier detection, evaluation, management, and follow-up of type II diabetes among individuals. Self-monitoring of blood glucose (SMBG) gives valuable information while selecting a treatment strategy (Olczuk et al., 2018). Diabetes self-care practices can also enhance the quality of healthcare and minimize the enormous financial expenditures of ER usage. Long-term disease department or the section could be part of work groups or committees that are put together by hospital governors to provide a framework of policy enforcement (Chircop et al., 2021).

Policy and Guidelines

Diabetic patient screening will manage the disease and rate of patients’ deaths. Medicaid Managed Care (MMC) provides diabetic patients with the procedure (Hinton & Stolyar, 2019). In the first recommendation, the nurse has to make sure the foot sensations of the patient, which will be a foot test.Secondly, an HgbA1c test for patients every quarter. If there is regular baseline diabetes test result, the test would be recommended to the patient every six months.

Furthermore, the clinical healthcare staff should provide timely recognition of diabetes. Self-care management is another policy enabling patients to monitor their blood sugar levels daily through home-based testing kits (Awang Ahmad et al., 2020). It will reduce the risks of high diabetes as patients can access on-time care in case of a slight consistent rise in blood sugar. The policy to promote self-care will reduce the burden on healthcare providers as there will be a low number of diabetic patients due to proper assessment and control of diabetes (Awang Ahmad et al., 2020).

Effect of Policy on Daily Work Routine and Responsibilities of Role Group

Slide 6

There is a strategic plan for carrying out daily tasks provided to the medical staff. Implementing formal processes and rules can make internal procedures easier, enhance compliance with policies and procedures, and offer decision-making guidance. By making the resolution of patient problems more streamlined, such processes can also conserve time and decrease stress for health professionals, as highlighted by Ahmed et al. (2022). Evidence is available to support the fact that doctors are more and more engaged in the administrative functions of diabetes care in their day-to-day work. On the other hand, diabetes patients who are advised by nurses are more likely to adopt positive lifestyle changes and become more involved in the management of their condition. Nurses are essential in educating patients on monitoring their weight and blood sugar levels on a regular basis and using online tools to learn self-management skills, as proposed by Yapanis et al. (2022).

Importance of New Policy and Practice Guidelines

Slide 7

Clinical guidelines for diabetes are meant to minimize the occurrence of short- and long-term complications and promote the well-being of those living with diabetes. Clinical guidelines stipulate the content that diabetes education programs must provide and allow clinicians to better manage their patients’ conditions. Clinical guidelines also allow for the detection of areas of additional training and education, such as emphasized by Torres et al. (2022). These guidelines can be employed by physicians as a learning aid to increase their knowledge about managing diabetes, and this can lead to improved health outcomes for the patients. HgbA1c screening tests and foot checks can assist with early detection of diabetes and reduce the burden of healthcare personnel. Educating patients with self-management strategies can make them capable of controlling and regulating their disease by themselves, as highlighted by Guo et al. (2022).

Role Group’s Importance in Implementing New Policy

Slide 8

Nurses mainly have the role of giving treatment and patient education on how to keep diabetes under control. Board members and the director of the diabetes department will have to determine the best technique and reporting plan. Being part of developing and implementing the policy will empower clinicians, patients, and their families (Mendez et al., 2022). Implementation and formulation of practices and policies for diabetes management will be carried out by a group of high-level administrative staff, physicians, and nurses. The process will comprise the collection of feedback from staff and clinicians to confirm compliance with guidelines. As emphasized by Kaczmarek et al. (2022), nurses will have a key role in this endeavor by participating in workshops and training to enhance their knowledge and awareness of diabetes care. This process will enhance teamwork and communication among health professionals, resulting in improved patient outcomes and quality of care

Persuasive Arguments Appealing to Role Group

Problems of the diabetic patient death rate are associated with the overburdening and failure to comply with policies among healthcare staff. Training sessions will facilitate nursing staff comprehension of new policy and guideline implementation and necessity. Training session in the hospital for nursing staff alone will improve nursing staff satisfaction with clinical practice, ultimately traced back to improved patient care (Mendez et al., 2022).

Learning Activities for a Training Session

Slide 9

Workstation review, communication skills, seminars, conferences, dialogues, group work, simulations, and practical tests are some learning strategies that are applicable in a training session.Chircop et al. (2021) created a 90-minute diabetes management training program to equip medical personnel with the skills needed to use glucometers in monitoring blood glucose levels and instruct patients on symptoms, causes, and treatments of diabetes. There were generally positive perceptions among most of the participants of the overall aim, content, and structure of the training. Simulation-based teaching is a suitable pedagogy that can promote an actual realistic learning experience in healthcare professionals. Simulation group trainings can enhance clinical performance as well as patients’ outcomes. Participants could perform patient care during a simulated case with a discussion of common signs and symptoms of hyperglycemia. Nursing students’ learning capacity was increased through instructional interventions involving high-fidelity simulations and standardized patients (Kaczmarek et al., 2022)

Stakeholders’ Involvement and Collaboration Strategies

Slide 10

Government officials, citizens, healthcare professionals, business groups, nurses, doctors, psychiatrists, and registered dietitians are all important stakeholders. Stakeholders offer resources, knowledge, and information to deliver diabetic patients complete, patient-centered care. Stakeholder consultation, education, and involvement are easier than ever, owing to the evolution of digital tools such as video conferencing. Good communication is yet another technique for stakeholder working (Grunberger et al., 2021). Stakeholder regular meetings make it easy to inform them about the project.

Conclusion

Slide 11

It is essential to implement policies that support lifestyle change programs that focus on healthy diets and regular exercise in order to control and prevent diabetes.

Every registered nurse can contribute towards controlling, managing, and formulating diabetes by encouraging nutritional and lifestyle education.

The stakeholders give a reality check on the appropriateness, familiarity with, and counseling on reaching the target groups, continuous comments, and suggestions. The feedback provided by stakeholders may also assist in converting assessment outcomes into utilisable information.
