MBA FPX 5008 Assessment 1

Assessment Overview

MBA FPX 5008 Assessment 1 interprets graphical data from a composition/report about Shark Tank deals, how numerous offers were made, which were closed, and post-show issues. It focuses on reading maps and tables, recapitulating crucial findings (e.g., deal check rates and survival of unrestricted deals), and explaining investor-position differences.

Shark Tank: Deals Offered and Closed

Shark Tank is a program where entrepreneurs pitch their ideas, and investors, also known as “sharks,” offer deals. Of the 237 deals that have been made on the show, 57% of them were actually closed and 43% of them were not. Of the 134 deals that were closed, 95% of the companies are still in operation, 4% of the companies have shut down, and 1% have been sold.

Shark Tank: Deals Offered, Closed, and Changed by Investors

All the deals of each shark differed in status and success. Mark Cuban closed 32 deals, Daymond John closed 27, Kevin O’Leary closed 14, Barbara Corcoran closed 28, Lori Greiner closed 35, and Robert Herjavec closed 24 deals. The number of deals that held, were modified, or fell apart also differed for each investor. The below table summarizes the deals made by each shark, those that remained the same, those that were modified, and those that ultimately broke down.

MBA FPX 5008 Assessment 1:Conclusion

Being on Shark Tank has worked out for the majority of entrepreneurs. A survey revealed that 73% of the contestants enjoyed the experience despite the fact that a deal was not finalized. Entrepreneurs primarily gained other advantages, such as exposure and networking, from being on the show.

Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Read the source illustrations—examine maps, tables, and captions to understand what each graphic measures (counts, probabilities, timelines).
  2. corroborate figures—note summations and group counts (e.g., 237 deals;
  3. 57 closed; of unrestricted deals, 95 are still operating. Use the values shown rather than guessing.
  4. epitomize crucial criteria—report overall check rate, survival/trade rates of unrestricted deals, and per-wolf deal counts and issues.
  5. Describe data patterns—point out trends or anomalies (which wolf closed most deals, which had most fall-throughs, etc.).
  6. Interpret meaning—explain business counteraccusations (exposure value, deal fragility, investor selectivity).
  7. Assess visual clarity—note any deceiving rudiments (missing markers, unclear scales, inconsistent summations).
  8. Conclude with limitations—call out data gaps (sample period, follow-up length, delineations of “unrestricted”).
  9. Cite sources—list the composition/report and any supporting references used.
