Introduction

Heroes, real or not, fascinate our minds and inspire us with their actions. But what is it about heroism? Is it by nature, by upbringing, or by looks? This evaluation takes a look at the analysis of two artifacts from other cultures to identify the heroic traits they present.

Evaluation of Chosen Artifacts

The initial artifact under analysis is the biblical account of David and Goliath, a story steeped in faith and courage. In Judah around 1050 B.C., it describes David, a lowly shepherd boy, facing the giant Philistine warrior, Goliath. Without battle experience and physical size on his side, David’s courage and absolute confidence in divine intervention carry him to triumph (Berejikian, 2018).

The second artifact, the celebrated musical “Hamilton,” tells the life story of Alexander Hamilton, from his poor start in life to his influence on American history. As one of America’s founding fathers, the rise from obscurity to the spotlight of Hamilton’s career is characterized by his intellect, strength, and political savvy (Kenny, 2011).

Similarities and Differences

Both artifacts represent heroic traits, but they differ in the paths to greatness of their protagonists. David and Hamilton come from poor backgrounds, overcoming adversity to become prominent. Their methods, however, differ; Hamilton uses intellectual ability, while David succeeds through physical courage. Regardless of these differences, both cultures identify strength, bravery, and confidence as defining features of heroism.

Takeaways from the Artifact Analysis

Study of these artifacts shows that heroism is beyond individual traits. Heroes come in various forms, with a combination of traits which make them admirable. From such an analysis, it is clear that tenacity, based on belief and resolve, is a thread that runs through cultures. Parallel with personal stories, such as David’s unshakeable belief, builds resilience and strength in meeting life’s challenges.
