Course Welcome Message 

I would like to welcome you to your Supply Chain Management class as you continue with your MBA. I am Dwayne Hummer, and I will be your instructor for this course. I am a DBA scholar at Capella University and will be serving as your instructor for this course. While this is an online class, you will be expected to meet with me and your peers twice weekly, as well as complete weekly assignments, such as journaling, literature reviews, and other tasks. We will meet through Zoom, as well as have posted assigned work, with all references, project information, and due dates on our Capella Courseroom site. I will be posting further updates to the Announcements section as necessary. Your Supply Chain Management course will focus on a group learning process where you will showcase your group and individual performance by working in small teams. Your individual participation will be key during this entire course.

You are supposed to complete all assignments in order and read the scoring guide before starting your assignments so that you have an idea of what they are expecting. It is important that you make your due dates for your assignments because it will keep you on schedule, organized, and in focus. You will be getting weekly assignments, so weekly participation is imperative. Before we even get a chance to discuss this course, there is something that needs to be learned about a supply chain. A supply chain is an organization of businesses and suppliers who produce and sell a specific product or service. Like fruit at the grocery store. The farmer planted the fruit and shipped it on a boat, truck, airplane, etc., to the market. The product is received and put onto the shelf. Without all these elements, the fruit would never have made it from the farmer into the store. Through completion of this course to success, you will be able to identify:

• Current supply chain management trends such as artificial intelligence, crowdsourcing delivery tasks, partnership for outsourcing, intelligent warehouse management, multi-route planning system, sustainability customization, risk management, the Internet of Things (IoT), building relationships, and enhanced visibility.
• Identify elements of a supply chain such as plan, source, make, and deliver.
• Identify supply chain coordination challenges such as consumer requirements, increase in channels to market, worldwide challenges, and inventory management.
• The effectiveness of a supply chain in delivering business competitiveness. Companies seek to obtain and then sustain their zones of competitiveness relative to other similar companies.
• A supply chain structure that includes planning and the action required to process the demand management to customer delivery. Essentially, match the supply with the demand to create an action plan that includes the operating levels and resources required to meet the customer’s needs.
• Analyze issues and trends in efficient supply chain management systems. These are increasing costs, complexity resulting from numerous channels in the market, customer needs that bring with them the pressure of improved speed, quality, and service, risks in the supply chain that bring about pressure, and finally, the impact of volatility.
