Making Time to Achieve Your Goals 

Part 1

During the course of undertaking this evaluation through the use of the online calculator, it was clear that there was some unused time. This excess time was then dedicated to family activities, given their highest priority in my life. As a national staff member and project manager, with a well-organized workday, I was able to easily determine available time slots by looking at my calendar. Changes in my sleeping habits, sometimes eight hours or more on some days and less on others, were responsible for early inconsistencies in allocating time. In all, I feel that my time is well distributed, making a positive contribution to overall productivity.

Ensuring that there is an ordered plan is an important aspect of allocating time. In my leadership training, I learned to apply a chart with circles of influence and control. As per Mackay (2020), understanding the real priority of tasks when confronted with an array of important and urgent tasks is critical. Tasks under direct control are ranked independently from those which have only influence, allowing for different deadlines. In my view, time management in a business environment requires careful balancing. As Bailey (2020) advises, keeping a detailed day-to-day activities log helps one grasp time usage and spot possible areas of improvement.

A sample ranking of tasks in order of priority includes:

1) Having dinner with my wife and three kids each night. 2) Coordinating projects under my management at work. 3) Contributing to projects I work on. 4) Keeping up with school coursework on time. 5) Sticking to my workout routine and diet. 6) Scheduling free time and vacations with the family.

Family always comes first when prioritizing tasks. Though the retreat ended early, I make being home a priority. Work projects are more important than the retreat, but everything for work is scheduled within the week. The company retreat commitment comes next, in third position. This leaves space in the morning for work-outs and full meals, with the evenings remaining for any remaining coursework. Reading and research are done before I go to sleep. 

Part 2

The reasoning behind my selected time organization technique is based on the basic significance of time management in my life. With my hectic weekly schedule, any utility that helps in organization is worthwhile. Microsoft Outlook is my major scheduling utility, and it grants my team access to my calendar for meetings or scheduling on my behalf. For personal tasks, I make use of the Microsoft application “To Do” on my mobile, and tasks are automatically incorporated into my calendar.

Effective time management is critical towards ensuring efficiency and productivity. Abiding by given time allocations for tasks is a practice I wholeheartedly support, such as closing meetings on time to honor everyone’s calendars.

As a corporate employee, I prioritize keeping weekends clear for family activities. While the retreat did not significantly disrupt my schedule, I acknowledge the importance of updating personal schedules in work calendars to accommodate potential instructions from leadership.

Utilizing resources like Microsoft tools is critical for maintaining a cohesive schedule within a team. Alternative tools or paper calendars would pose challenges in staying on task and addressing team needs promptly.
